Chapels Heritage Day

Sheila, Lynda, Stephen, Pat and David represented Friends of Saron at this extremely successful event which was held last Saturday at Canolfan Soar in Merthyr.

We were treated to an interesting and absorbing day (partly bilingual with simultaneous translation) which included items on:-

  • ‘The Bethesda Cause’ by  Rev. Tudor Jones
  • ‘Welsh Chapels’ by the author Huw Owen
  • ‘The Organ in Chapels’ by D.G. Smith FTCL, ARCM
  • ‘Soar Chapel’ by local historians Steve Brewer and Carl Llewellyn ( including a book launch on ‘The History of Soar Chapel’ by Steve Brewer)

In addition, Friends of Saron presented a display and a short talk on ‘The History of Saron Chapel, Troedyrhiw’ and ‘The Saron Graveyard Project’. This was very well received with many positive comments being made and some useful links established.

About davidjcollier

Originally from South Wales I have lived in Nottinghamshire for over forty years. I am married and have three grown up children and two grandchildren. Having worked in education for 43 years I will retire in July 2012. My interests include history (general, local and family), rugby union, swimming, photography, bird watching and gardening. For the benefit of anyone who may actually read this (extremely unlikely, I admit) please do not confuse 'interests' with knowledge or skill. My involvement in a community project which aims to rescue a graveyard from the effects of almost 30 years of neglect. also keeps me quite busy. View all posts by davidjcollier
